Objectives: Learn what “CPA and CPL offers” are, and how to research them in your niche on OfferVault.
What You’ll Accomplish: When you finish this lesson, you’ll have an even better idea of which niche to choose, and you’ll also know about programs that can help you make money from your list the day you start it.
Estimated Time of Completion: 10 minutes
Before You Begin: Go to OfferVault.com. Get a pen and paper or open a Word’/text document to take notes.
Money making offers are the bread and butter of your business. Without them, your revenues will be dead in the water. And no matter how large it is, your email list will be useless unless you have a way to monetize it. (“Monetize” is a one-word way of saying “make it earn money.”)
This is why OfferVault.com is an incredible research tool. It’s a free directory that lists thousands of ways to make money with your list.
OfferVault.com lists just about every available CPA and CPL program available worldwide today (I’ll explain what CPL and CPA are in a moment). It also shows you how much you can potentially earn from each offer. It also includes links that instantly take you to the application process (required by some programs).
Before I show you how to use OfferVault, though, I’m going to stop for a moment and get you up to speed on all this unfamiliar verbiage.
This is different than the commissions you get when you promote an offer on Clickbank, which are a percentage of each sale.
One reason why CPA offers are attractive is you get that flat amount even if the customer refunds the product. On the other hand, with Clickbank offers, you lose your commission if the customer asks for a refund.
I’ll give you an example of a CPL offer in just a moment. First, there’s one more term I’d like you to know.
Now let’s put all this information together in a typical example:
You’ll understand all this a little better once you get inside OfferVault and see it in action. So let’s get in there right now.
In fact, as an email marketer, you can really use OfferVault to get an edge. Not only will it help you check the first three criteria of a profitable niche:
1. Are there lots of offers and multiple things to sell?
2. Are customers known to buy?
3. Can you market to this niche online in a profitable way?
It will also show you a way to make money off your list right away, from the minute you start getting your first subscribers.
Let’s see how to use Offerault now…
On the top of the OfferVault web page you’ll see a search bar. Let’s look for some offers and see what OfferVault can tell us.
Go ahead and type in your specific niche and hit search. Try to be as specific as possible, while still being general enough to allow a lot of options to pop up.
Let’s do an example. Say you are leaning towards the health niche. “Health” is probably too broad. But what about a topic near and dear to anyone interested in better health: diet? Or weight?
Try typing in “diet” instead of “health.”
When you type in “diet,” you’ll see a whole host of diet related products!
This already tells us that “diet” satisfies “#1 – Are there lots of offers and multiple things to sell?” There are 1,000+ offers listed.
The answer to “#2 – Are people known to buy?” is also pretty obvious. With so many offers and such high payouts, the online marketplace looks very active.
And wow, look at the payouts! If you see payouts like this in your niche, you can be sure that #3 – Can you market to this niche online in a profitable way? is a definite “yes.” At $60+ for just ONE qualified lead. (“Qualified” just means the person filled out the form completely with valid information.)
Go ahead and click on a listing that looks interesting. There will be a description of the offer, the payout, and even the web page you’ll send people to:
Take about 10 minutes now and do a little searching for your niches in OfferVault. That will convince you that it’s a literal gold mine of offers – all of which are opportunities to generate revenue for your new business!
What do I mean by a “range” of offers?
Yes, be absolutely SURE there are low-payout CPL offers. Even just ten cents a lead works, but anything around .50 to $1.00 is great. Like these:
There’s a very good reason for this:
I will get into this in much more detail later. But just as a sneak
preview: this could make your Thank You Page super profitable!
OfferVault provides you with the convenience of being able to click over to the network and fill out an application right then and there. You just click the “Join Network” button.
If you have a good idea of your niche, and are an intermediate level marketer already, you can go ahead and apply right now.
Now that you’ve got 3 websites to research niches for your email
marketing business, let’s take the final step… selecting your niche!
Move right along to the next lesson and do that now.

What are “CPA” and “CPL?”
If these terms are new to you, CPA and CPL are acronyms for different types of money making programs.
CPA—Cost per action.
This is where a customer buys the product and you get the payout promised for the sale. This is a flat amount, such as $25.
|
One reason why CPA offers are attractive is you get that flat amount even if the customer refunds the product. On the other hand, with Clickbank offers, you lose your commission if the customer asks for a refund.
CPL—Cost per Lead.
Once someone fills out that complete form, they are considered a “qualified LEAD.” This is when you get paid for sending someone to fill out information online. The information can be just one thing, like an email address or even just a zip code. Or it could be a lot of information, like a name, address, and phone number. The amount you get paid is based on the amount of information the person provides. So you may only get paid 25 cents for an email, but $25 for a full blown application form. That lead (the person’s name, address, and other data) now belongs to the merchant who is sponsoring this offer. The merchant is willing to pay well to acquire such valuable information. Why? That lead could become a lifetime customer! |
Network— “Network” is what we call the company that manages the offer.
For example, a mortgage company will contact a network to get refinance leads. The network sets up a web page with the refinance application form, collects the data, verifies that the leads are legitimate, and then pays you (the marketer) for the verified leads. There are many different networks to choose from, with many different products. |
Here’s an example:
Let’s say there is a network that offers $70 CPL for a free 30
day trial (+ shipping and handling) of a new weight loss supplement. OfferVault lists this offer in its database. The listing will include the network and how much you get paid. You can also look at a sample of the web page the visitor has to fill out. In this case the web page requires a name, address, phone # and credit card # to get a free month’s supply of the product. That $70 payout is much higher than a $1 lead for another CPL offer for an online weight loss club, where all the visitor has to do is provide a full name and email address. Obviously it’s a lot easier to get people to hand over JUST their name and email than it is to get them to give out their credit card #. This is why payouts for long forms are much higher. |

Searching for Offers
If you’d prefer to watch a short video of this process, here it is:On the top of the OfferVault web page you’ll see a search bar. Let’s look for some offers and see what OfferVault can tell us.

Look for a Range of Offers
Once your list is up and running, there are times when you’ll promote CPL offers and times you’ll promote CPA offers. Therefore you should always check for a wide range of offers in OfferVault. What do I mean by a “range” of offers?
- Are there some simple, low-payout CPL offers? For example, about $1 CPL.
- Does it also have some CPL offers that pay much more? At least $10 is good, and anything above that is fantastic.
- Does it have some CPA offers too? If you see ClickBank products, those are CPA.
Most important of all…
The more CPL offers you see in your niche, the better!
Why? Lots of CPL offers means there’s plenty of potential traffic
and plenty of money to be made in that niche! |
The BEST Niches Have the HIGHEST Payouts
The best sign of all is if the CPL payouts for leads are high. Why? Two reasons.
First, that niche must be highly profitable
if companies are willing to pay that much just for a LEAD.
And second, even if only a small percentage of your traffic fills out that long application, you can still make some good money!
|
Why You Also Want LOW Payouts
Before you go on, I want you to stop right now make sure there are some lead offers that pay for an email, or a name and email, or other non-intimidating information.Yes, be absolutely SURE there are low-payout CPL offers. Even just ten cents a lead works, but anything around .50 to $1.00 is great. Like these:
There’s a very good reason for this:
This is a powerful way to make money from your list right away.

OPTIONAL STEP – Apply for a Network
CPL networks require you to APPLY to their program before you can promote lead offers. This is to prevent fraud and to verify that you will be sending them prospective leads in a legitimate way. The application process is usually very straightforward.OfferVault provides you with the convenience of being able to click over to the network and fill out an application right then and there. You just click the “Join Network” button.
If you have a good idea of your niche, and are an intermediate level marketer already, you can go ahead and apply right now.
NOTE for total beginners: You can just review the application to get an idea of what you’ll need to do later, but don’t fill it out or hit “submit.” We’ll prompt you to come back to it when you have your domain and opt-in page ready. |
NOTE for intermediate marketers:
If you already have some experience in online marketing, fill out the
information out to the best of your ability. Just be honest.
Once you have submitted your application, make sure to make a follow up phone call to the network immediately.
Do it within 60 minutes and ask to speak with someone about your
application. This shows initiative and can help to ensure you get the
company as an affiliate. Don’t be afraid to be up front and say, “Hey, I’m new to this. But I’m actively setting up my site to build an opt-in list in the diet niche. I’ll be aggressively promoting my newsletter and will send my readers a diet tip every day.” You can even tell them you are taking this course, and that you are follow an action plan laid out by other highly successful marketers who generate thousands of dollars a week in lead-based revenues. |
